An exciting season lies ahead of us! The elite of international men’s curling will meet each other in Bern‘s Curling Hall from the 16th to the 18th October 2009. 32 teams from a total of twelve countries (Canada, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Holland and Switzerland) have registered for the tournament and will, as usual, provide us with top-class curling. I would like to warmly welcome all of the teams and I hope that everybody involved will have an enjoyable and successful stay in the curling city of Bern.

In the past, the organizing committee has always endeavoured to provide the teams, players and coaches with the best possible conditions, both on and off the ice. Since 2008, our hotel sponsor and partner, the Holiday Inn Bern-Westside, has assisted us in this endeavour. This year, all of the foreign teams will avail themselves of our partner‘s hospitality and professionalism. In the truest sense of the word, the Holiday Inn Bern-

Westside will therefore become the “coolest” hotel in Switzerland. I would very much like to thank the management and crew and wish them a great weekend which will be heavily influenced by our sport.

The bern open is celebrating a premiere this year. The whole of the final on Sunday 18th October 2009 will, for the first time, be transmitted live by Swiss sports television. My thanks go to the initiators of this long-awaited undertaking; I hope that it is very successful and, of course, that the viewer ratings are very good.

Finally, I would like to express my special thanks to all those, without whose valuable support, the bern open could not take place, namely our sponsors, advertisers and patrons, the helpers, the ice master, the crew of the Caledonia Restaurant and the members of the Organizing Committee.  A huge thank you to all of you; you are quite simply fantastic!

Liebe Curlerinnen, Curler und Curlingfreunde

Eine spannende Olympiasaison steht uns bevor! Vom 16. bis 18. Oktober 2009 trifft sich die internationale Elite der Herren zum gros-sen Stelldichein in der Curlinghalle Bern. 32 Teams aus insgesamt zwölf Nationen (Kanada, Schottland, Schweden, Norwegen, Finnland, Deutschland, Italien, Frankreich, Tschechien, Ungarn, Holland und der Schweiz) haben sich für das Turnier eingeschrieben und werden in gewohnter Manier für Curlingsport der Extraklasse sorgen. Ich heisse alle Teams ganz herzlich willkommen und wünsche allen Akteuren einen angenehmen und erfolgreichen Aufenthalt in der Curlingstadt Bern.

Das Organisationskomitee hat sich in der Vergangenheit immer bemüht, den Teams, Spielern und Coachs bestmögliche Bedingungen sowohl auf als auch neben dem Eis zu präsentieren. Seit 2008 dürfen wir bei diesem Bestreben auf unseren Hotelsponsor und -partner, das Holiday-Inn Bern Westside, zählen. Sämtliche

ausländische Teams werden auch dieses Jahr die Gastfreundschaft und das professionelle Umfeld unseres Partners geniessen.
Das Holiday-Inn Bern Westside wird damit im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes zum „coolsten“ Hotel der Schweiz. Ich bedanke mich beim Management und der Crew ganz herzlich und wünsche ihnen ein tolles Wochenende im Zeichen unseres Sports.

Das bern open feiert dieses Jahr eine Premiere. Erstmals wird das Finalspiel am Sonntag, 18. Oktober 2009 live und in voller Länge vom Schweizer Sportfernsehen übertragen. Mein Dank gilt den Initianten dieses langersehnten Unterfangens; ich hoffe auf gutes Gelingen und natürlich hohe Zuschauerquoten.
